intensive EMDR therapy in ConnecticuT
When healing needs more space.
EMDR intensives for adults who are ready to do focused, concentrated work and want a clear beginning, middle & end.
EMDR Intensives: a deep, embodied way to work.
An intensive is a defined arc of work rather than an open-ended ongoing therapy commitment.
It's designed for people who have something specific they want to move on and don't need long-term weekly therapy but do need real, dedicated time to work through something that's been stuck.
EMDR intensives may be right for you if:
You lead a busy and full life that isn’t conducive to weekly sessions
→
You have a trusted therapist and are looking to do EMDR in addition to your current therapy.
→
You've done some prior work and aren't starting from scratch.
→
You are looking for dedicated time and space to focus on YOU without interruption
→
You want something contained and intentional, not indefinite.
→
What EMDR makes possible in this format:
EMDR works by helping your nervous system process what it's still carrying, not by retelling the story in detail, but by working directly with what's stored underneath the thinking.
In a weekly format, that work happens in pieces. There's value in that. But some things need more runway. The intensive format creates the conditions for your nervous system to do deeper work in a single sustained container, rather than returning week after week to the same place.
How EMDR intensives work:
-
Free 25 minute consultation:
No pressure to commit to anything on the call
You tell me a bit about what you are struggling with
I give feedback on options for therapy and how an intensive vs weekly work may benefit you
I review the logistics of an EMDR intensive
-
From the very start, your intensive is designed with intention. Before we meet, you’ll complete a personalized workbook that helps you reflect on your history, patterns, and goals. I review this carefully ahead of time, spending dedicated preparation time to organize themes, identify potential EMDR targets, and thoughtfully map out a plan tailored to your unique needs. When we meet for your preparation session, we’re able to go deeper right away refining the plan together and setting the stage for focused, meaningful work in your intensive.
-
Before your intensive begins, we meet for a dedicated preparation session. Together, we’ll review the insights you’ve shared in your workbook, clarify your goals, and identify the patterns you’re most ready to shift. We’ll explore what feels most important to work on, talk through pacing, and make sure you feel prepared for the focused work ahead. This session allows us to enter your intensive with a clear, individualized plan that’s thoughtfully designed to support both depth and safety.

A gentle note:
An intensive is not crisis intervention and not meant to be a shortcut to healing. It works best when there's enough stability to go deeper and when the nervous system has some foundation to work from.
If you're in an acute crisis or have never done any therapeutic work, a different starting point is likely a better fit. We'll talk through that on the consultation call and explore options.
FAQs:

The 90 minute intake and follow up sessions may be done online. All intensive EMDR sessions are held in person at my office in Farmington, CT.

Nope! EMDR is not only for people who identify with having trauma or a difficult childhood. While EMDR was originally developed to treat PTSD, it works by supporting how the nervous system processes experiences, not by labeling events as traumatic.
Many people who had generally supportive upbringings still feel stuck, anxious, or overwhelmed in certain areas of life. Stress, pressure, relationship patterns, or experiences that felt manageable at the time can still shape how your nervous system learned to respond. Part of my role is to help uncover those patterns and gently support your system in responding with more ease, even when there is no single event you would call “trauma.”

EMDR intensives are a private-pay service and are not billable to insurance.
The preparation session, half-day, and full-day intensives are highly individualized services that involve extended, specialized formats not covered under standard insurance billing codes. Because these services fall fully outside of what insurance considers medically necessary treatment, no claims will be submitted to insurance, and superbills will not be provided.
This private-pay model allows us to design your intensive experience around your specific needs, free from the restrictions of session length, frequency, or insurance-based treatment limitations.

Traditional therapy occurs in weekly 50-60 minute sessions, offering steady, ongoing support over time. EMDR Intensives, on the other hand, provide extended, structured time for deeper processing in a shorter timeframe. Both approaches are valuable, and the choice depends on what feels right for you. If you appreciate deep, immersive work, an intensive may be a good fit.

Not everyone is ready to dive into intensive work right away, and that's completely okay. I also offer extended 90-minute or 2-hour sessions (weekly or bi-weekly) as a way to:
Build trust and safety in the therapeutic relationship
Start addressing patterns without the commitment of a full intensive
Prepare for intensive work when you're ready
Continue depth work after completing an intensive
These extended sessions give us room to go deeper than traditional 55-minute therapy while allowing you to move at your own pace. Schedule a consult and we'll figure out what format feels right for you.

Yes! I am happy to collaborate with your current clinician to support your healing in an intensive.

You don’t have to have it all figured out. If you’re feeling stuck and open to trying something different, that’s often a sign that this might be worth exploring. Whatever you decide, I trust you to make the choice that is best for you. If you’re curious to learn more, I’d be happy to connect and provide additional details to support your decision. This is a space where you can take your time, ask questions, and choose what aligns with your healing.
Readiness looks different for everyone. Key indicators include:
Emotional stability in daily life
Support system in place
Familiarity with using coping skills effectively
Time and space for the intensive and recovery
Desire to address specific reproductive experience

Let’s chat next session to explore how an intensive may support you! I find that intensives are a great addition to work we are already doing in the traditional weekly format especially if we dedicate the time to working on a stuck point!
